What the Veeran Summer Cup taught us about paying up front

Veeran Summer Cup, Goa: ₹10,000 for Avyaan, ₹19,500 more for the family to travel. Four wins, a hat-trick — and then the team withdrew in protest at how the organisers ran it.

What went wrong

The football was good; the organisation wasn't. By the time the problems were clear, the money — entry, travel, stay — was already spent and non-refundable. Withdrawing was the right call on principle, but it doesn't get the outlay back.

The finance lesson

Away tournaments ask you to commit the whole cost — travel and stay included — before you know how well they'll be run. We're now slower to book the family leg until the tournament has a track record, and we treat the entry fee and the travel as two separate decisions, not one.
